WHAT CAN BE DONE IF I HAVE AN INTEREST IN A CERTAIN PROGRAM OR ACTIVITY AND THE RECREATION & PARKS DEPARTMENT DOES NOT OFFER IT?
All that is needed for the operation of a program, assuming it is suitable for a municipality, is that there are enough people to warrant hiring staff, funding, and a site. For self-sustaining programs, there has to be enough people enrolled to cover the cost of the program. The Recreation & Parks Department is willing to listen to any ideas for programs. Contact the Superintendent of Recreation at (914) 771-3311.
HOW DOES ONE GET TO WORK OR TEACH FOR THE RECREATION & PARKS DEPARTMENT?
The Recreation & Parks Department uses about 200 paid staff and volunteers per year, either as instructors, teachers, sports officials, directors of programs, monitors, attendants or aids. One must be at least 16 years of age to be paid. Those interested should fill out an application (available in the Recreation office, 40 Mill Road, Eastchester, NY) and we will arrange for an interview.
