Employment
Recruitment is the first step in the hiring process. The primary method of recruitment for the position of police officer within the Eastchester Police Department is through the Westchester County Department of Human Resources continuous recruitment-testing program.
Westchester County holds the civil service examination for Police Officer and Police Officer (Spanish Speaking) to fill vacancies for positions in the Westchester County Department of Public Safety Services and the police departments of the Cities of Peekskill and Rye and the towns and villages in Westchester County.
The Police Officer and Police Officer (Spanish Speaking) was held on November 19, 2016. Police Officer exam is usually given once every four years and was scheduled to be held in the Fall of 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Westchester County will not be administering the Police Officer Exam in September as previously expected. New York State Civil Service Commission has agreed to hold this exam in the Spring of 2021, although a date has not yet been confirmed.
A Study Guide to the Police Officer examination “Entry Level Police Officer Series” is available on the New York State Department of Civil Service Web site. Download the study guide, or it is available in hard copy form and can be obtained at the Westchester County Department of Human Resources Office.
